Anita Dharwadkar, registered dietitian and founder of Ahara Nutrition Counseling

Anita Dharwadkar RD, LDN

Hi there! I’m Anita (she/her), a registered dietitian based in the Boston area. I’m passionate about helping people heal their relationship with food, their bodies and themselves. Over the years, I’ve worked with clients navigating everything from, “I’m not sure if this food is upsetting my stomach,” to “I’ve lived with an eating disorder my whole life and I’m finally ready to talk about it.” No matter where you are in your journey, my goal is to meet you with compassion, curiosity and without judgment. Above all else, I believe my most important role as a clinician is to be a human first by building a genuine, trusting connection with each one of my clients.

Since becoming a registered dietitian, I've worked across multiple levels of care in a variety of settings. While each role has given me invaluable insight and experience, outpatient care has become my favorite. I love having the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with my clients and support them through the ups and downs of life.

In addition to specializing in eating disorders, I enjoy supporting folks in navigating complex chronic illness. I have a deep understanding of what it is like living with life altering diagnoses. When chronic illness and nutrition concerns intersect, I believe care should be individualized, collaborative and sustainable for you.

During sessions you can expect humor, a Josie (my dog) appearance, a Taylor Swift reference and an “ah-ha” moment or two. When I’m not at work I enjoy obsessing over my dog, trying a new coffee shop or restaurant, reading the latest romantacy, napping & ending each day with a sweet treat!

“We will always be so thankful to Anita for her help in saving our son and cannot recommend her enough.  When your child is very sick from their ED and has multiple appointments with different practitioners each week, it is so stressful and takes a toll on everyone in the family – but we always looked forward to our sessions with Anita. She made them as relaxed as they could be given the diagnosis, was easy to talk to and we always left with a game plan for the week feeling a little bit better and more hopeful. Food went from being the enemy back to something that he could enjoy freely again. Our son is doing very well thanks to her expertise and nutrition counseling. She was an integral part of his treatment team to help him regain his health as well as his relationship with food and his body.”

“When I first came to Anita for nutrition counseling, I felt a bit anxious and overwhelmed. From the very first session, Anita was sure to make me feel comfortable and took everything at my pace. She has a wealth of knowledge and knows how to troubleshoot when needed. She’s extremely validating, supportive, and reassuring each step of the way as well. I always look forward to my sessions with Anita and love celebrating the small victories with her! I would not be where I am today without her- she’s amazing!”
